Birthday Celebration

Oh, my goodness it has been a crazy week in our household with Christmas functions and colds, but I just had to get some of the boy’s birthday pictures up.  It was a great celebration and he was so into it this year.

As I mentioned before, we decided to do a Toy Story themed party.  I ended up going with the alien cupcakes and they were a big hit with the kiddos.

To make it more fun, I found the perfect shirt for the boy to wear at Target. He already had the hat from his costume chest.

Since we were doing a Toy Story theme and had alien cupcakes we had to have pizza from “Pizza Planet.”  Of course, pizza made my life a lot easier!

To top it off, we got the boy his very own Woody “doll.”  Whenever we visited his friend Jack, he would always gravitate to the Woody and Buzz toys.  When he was opening his presents I actually got a little teary eyed.  I just loved seeing him so excited and happy. It was a perfect day with family.

We ended the festivities with kids watching Toy Story Affliation Link (Lil’man got it for his birthday from his Meme.)  While they watched, the adults enjoyed a fun game of iMAgiNiff. Affliation Link

All in all, our lil’ family had a fun time celebrating the boy’s 3rd birthday.

How do you celebrate birthdays in your home?

More Birthday Planning

Ok, so I’m running out of time to plan the boys 3rd birthday.  Wow, I can’t believe he’s going to be 3 what happen?

Ok, ok moving on before I start to tear up. I decided on the Toy Story Theme, so I have been researching cakes.  Boy are there some cute ones out there!  I love these two cupcake ideas:

Then check out these cakes!  I haven’t gotten into fondant, but maybe I should.

If only I needed a large cake, not that I could recreate this, but wowzers! This cake is awesome!

Honestly, with celebrating his birthday the Saturday after Thanksgiving and not being that talented in the cake decorating business, I will probably end up doing what is easiest.  Cupcakes.  But boy, I really want to give one of these fondant cakes a try.

Do you like cake decorating?  What are some of your favorites?

Birthday Planning

I love planning birthdays, especially my son’s.  It’s so much fun!  This year it has been a little bit harder though because the boy doesn’t have a favorite.  There is not ONE thing he has really been into or excited about like the last 2 years of his life.

His first year he was into puppies.  He loved everything about them.  So, when I came across this Puppy Party Theme from Oriental Trading, I had to do it.

Of course, if you are going to have a puppy theme party you must have a puppy cake.

Do you recognize my puppy pattern?  If not, imagine it blue.  Did you guess Blue Clues?  This was my very first ever cake creation.  I was very happy with it.  I made a 9x13 cake and cut it into 3 pieces (head, right ear, left ear and use the scrapes for the tongue and nose). Then I just used regular chocolate and white frosting to decorate. Now, mind you I learn a few things from all my mistakes – like making the cake earlier than the day of the party!

Yup, I love planning birthdays.  For this year, we’ve finally decided to do a Toy Story Theme from Party City.

Even though, the boy has only seen the original once.  Next week, I’ll share the boys 2nd birthday and then maybe by then I’ll know what I’m doing for his cake this year.  Decisions, decisions.
