This week we worked on transportation activities. We didn’t get as much done as planned because the weather here has been absolutely beautiful. We just had to take advantage of the Spring like temperatures, especially since we were stuck indoors for most of the week last week. I’m so glad we did too because we may have snow in our forecast next week. Make sure and visit Amber at The Belly of The Whale to see more activities in action from our unit. (Her post usually goes up on Sunday.)
Here are the pictures from the day we actually got everything done.
Language Arts: Lil’man worked on spelling by connecting the letters with our Transportation Word Puzzles. The truck and plane were the hardest one for him, probably because of the length of word and the indistinctive shape. Just so you know, he doesn’t know how to spell these words, but puts the vehicles together which connects the letters. Then I ask him what b-u-s spells and using the picture he says bus.
He also practiced writing his letters by tracing over the Highway ABC Cards from Making Learning Fun.
Math Concepts: He measured the length of trains for math. I had to have him put his finger at the end of the train and then tell me what number was under his finger
Other Activities: He learned about different types of vehicles through a sorting activity. The boy did pretty good on this. We worked on one row at a time. I would ask him, “What vehicle do you find at a (house)?” Then he would answer and if he was right I would let him glue it down. If he wasn’t I would help him by asking more questions. The things he really had a hard time with were the boat-dock & sound and the airplane sound.
Since we were studying transportation, we had to pull out our train set.
Here are some of the books that we've been reading:
So, there you go. Don’t forget, you can download all the Transportation printables (not all seen here) for FREE at 2 Teaching Mommies.
I hope you’re able to come back next week and check out what we did!
We’re linking up to: Preschool Corner, 1+1+1=1, and Weekly Wrap-Up.
The sorting activity looks like fun and challenging.
ReplyDeleteWe had some nice weather and a birthday party to plan for this week. But we managed to find some time to enjoy your Valentines unit. Kayleigh had so much fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the nice comment! I always enjoy your activities. We recently had great fun with your Valentine's unit. We are going to be enjoying your health related units soon. I can't wait until we are at our transportation week. I've seen so many great ideas out there recently for it! Thank you for sharing all your ideas!
ReplyDeleteI loooove this theme, we're going to have to try it soon. (It seems like all of our themes come directly from you! Sorry! But imitation is the best form of flattery, right?) :)
ReplyDeleteI love doing theme based lessons and I'm flattered that I inspire you. Check out your blog and loved you creativity with painters tape and sensory bins.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the Valentine's Unit. As for the transportation stuff, you will have so much to pick from all the fabulous resources out there. We could have done so much more!
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo for nice weather and HAPPY Birthday to Kayleigh! Our beautiful weather from last week is no more. =(
ReplyDeleteThe boy did like it. We don't talk about planes and boats much so those areas were harder for him.
ReplyDeleteGreat week! We got out and enjoyed the weather a lot too :-)
