This is one of our family goals. It is a goal that is on going, but so worth it.
This year we really wanted to find a bible study that would be ideal for the boy and I was so excited to learn about The Good Book Company from Homeschool Creations. After reading Jolanthe’s review and taking a look inside book 1 of the Beginning with God, I knew I found the perfect one.
I love the way it is laid out and how it is a companion to The Beginners Bible.
We are tweaking it a bit to fit us. For example, we are focusing on one lesson a week and my husband is selecting a memory verse to go with each lesson.
I thought it would be fun to share what we are doing. I can’t promise that I will always have pictures because I don’t want to distract from the lesson, but I do plan to link to some resources that would fit with the lesson, in case any of you are working through this book as well. With that said:
Lesson 1: The Beginning
Our memory verse was “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1
One activity we decided to do with this lesson was to create a collage of what was made each day. We re-read the story and asked Lil’man to tell us what God made each day. We often referred back to the story to help him remember. Then I drew pictures and Lil’man helped me color them in.

We're using Bible Study Guide for All Ages, and I remember seeing this and thinking about getting it.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting this! I have been looking for a simple & fun study routine to get into with my son who is 3, but when I go to the bookstore.. I get very overwhelmed with all of the choices!

I know what you mean. Our goal is to do the lesson at the beginning of the week and then do a review at the end of the week as a family. Each day we go over the memory verse, sometimes at breakfast and sometimes at dinner. I try to do a simple activity during the week that goes with the unit. We will see how it goes. This is only our first week.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm glad you think it is one you'd like. I was really excited about it. One section that I really loved is "A snack for the journey." If I don't get a chance to do a small activity with him throughout the week, I can at least ask a question each day about what we learned at the beginning of the week.
ReplyDeleteWe really like it. We've used it with our Sunday School for the Intermediate
ReplyDeleteages, and the kids liked that. We've also used it at home and we're almost
through the second book. We try, and emphasis is on try to get 1 lesson a week
as a family. But, there's some weeks it just doesn't happen.
