My 22 month old son loves this book. I reserved it at the library prior to looking at it because it had pumpkin in the title. Once I opened it, I thought..."Oh, this isn't going to keep his attention. It is too long." Boy, was I ever wrong. I can't tell you what he loves about this book. It could be the colorful pictures, the adventure the Pucci family goes on to find the perfect pumpkin or the way my husband reads it with the various voices. All I know is he loves this book. He loves it so much we are tired of reading it to him. Another fun thing this book offers is pumpkin facts on every page. Definitely a fun book for the autumn season.
Our art project was a pumpkin collage. We took a different twist on it. I got my inspiration from
Craftivity Corner. We still have a few more things to do, cut it out and then add the leaf and vine, but I wanted to get it posted.
To do this activity you will need to gather the following materials:
Draw a pumpkin on the cardboard. It doesn't have to be perfect, pumpkins do come in all shapes and sizes.
Since my pumpkin was so large, I added glue to sections at a time. Once you add the glue start letting your babe place magazine scraps onto the pumpkin.
Add more glue and repeat the process until the pumpkin is completely covered with magazine scraps.
Once the pumpkin is completely covered, coat it in a layer of Mod Podge to make sure all the pieces are completely secured. Then cut out and add a pumpkin leaf and/or use the pipe clear to add a spiral vine.

Thanks for the book suggestion - I'm going straight to our library site to look it up - I hope they have it. I love the pumpkin too - wouldn't it be fun to cover it in candy wrappers? - We might have to try that.
ReplyDeleteCandy wrappers is a great idea! My problem would be I would have to eat all that candy! I don't know if I would complain too much about it. :) That would be a perfect craft to do after Halloween and add it to your Thanksgiving decor.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that there is yet another book on pumpkins that we haven't read. LOL. This project definitely looks great, and your son did a good job helping. I like the idea of using something else than just a cut construction paper.
