Language Arts:Lil’man had a lot of fun working on this unit. One activity that he loved was the Garbage Letter Toss. I got some scrap paper and wrote different letters on each piece. I then scattered those letters all over and had Lil’man pick one up at a time. When he picked it up, I had him identify the letter and its sound. He then crumbled it up and tossed it in the trash.
Here are some of the books we read this week.
Math Concepts:For math Lil’man sorted foam shapes beads into the right trash bin.
He also created patterns using pasta noodles, pipe cleaners and pictures of items that you would find in the grocery store.
Social Studies Concepts:As I mentioned earlier, we were learning all about the garbage man, grocer and mailman this week. So, what better way to learn about these community helpers then stepping into their shoes. Lil’man had a lot of fun role playing and dressing the part of these important helpers.
To recreate the garbage man look above all you need is an orange t-shirt a couple sizes to big, scissors and masking tape. First, I turned the shirt into a vest by cutting off the sleeves, collar and making a cut down the center on the front of the shirt. I added masking tape to give it that reflective look. The hat was given to us.
To get the mailman look above, simple download & print the mailman hat from Mrs. Nelson’s Class and attach it to a construction paper band. I went ahead and colored the hat in Photoshop elements before printing. Then dress your kid in a blue collar shirt and stuff an old purse with junk mail. Let them deliver it to all their stuff animals.
For Fun:My favorite shot from the week was when he was dancing with his buddy, but I didn’t have a chance to check with his mom to see if I could post it. So, I’ll leave you this shot of when he was having some bubble fun on Labor Day.
That was our week. Don’t forget, you can download all the printables (not all seen here) for FREE at 2 Teaching Mommies.
Next Week we will be focusing on The Forest! I hope you stop by to check it out!
Most importantly, don’t miss out on what others are doing at 1+1+1=1!
I know right. The were so simple to make too. I think I might have to collect some more shirts and try my hand on making more. I wonder what I could come up with?
I'm loving all your new stuff! I've already laid out my plans for the year, but am hoping to use some of your activities as they fit into our plans. Thanks for all your hard work AND willingness to share it!

ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like the stuff. My friend and I just wanted to give back, after being blessed by so many other mommies out there in blog land.
