Camping Day is a fun simple book that uses a text pattern. The story also uses a lot of simple dialogue. Although, the text is written for a new reader it shares a lot of information about camping, such as what to bring, things you’ll see and even adds a bit of humor with camping frustrations and scares. We love Patricia Lakin’s and Scott Nash’s alligator books. Lil’man enjoys looking at the pictures and even repeating some of the dialogue with his own expressions.
Arthur Goes to Campis Lil’man’s favorite so far. When ever asked to choose a book from the library bag this is the one he picks. This book is a much longer text than Camping Day, but my 2.5 year old has no problem sitting through it. I think he loves it for all the illustrations. The book has 2 storylines. One follows how Arthur does not want to go to camp. The 2nd storyline is about the rivalry between Camp Meadowcroak and Camp Horsewater.
Great to meet you! Found you through Feed Me Books Friday. I love the idea of the camp theme. My daughter goes to camp for the first time this year and this is something I should do with her! Thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes--we love Arthur, too!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to Read Aloud Thursday!
Good choices! My little ones are very pumped about camping this summer - I'm sure they'd enjoy those books, too.
ReplyDeleteMy son is very into camping right now - he's begging for a backyard campout. We'll have to go find these at our library!
ReplyDeleteOooh! Camping!!
ReplyDeleteHave you ever checked out the Christian Children's Book Review http://ccbreview.blogspot.com ?
It's a good resource for books - searchable by topics (like camping).
My B will only be camping under the kitchen table at 2 but these are fun! Mabels labels are great for labeling everything for camp as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining WMCIR. I remember reading Arthur Goes to Camp last year (when Anna was 2.5), but she found it a bit scary. The first book, however, looks like fun - I have to see if our library has it.
